There have been many famous sibling tennis players.  Undoubtedly, Serena and Venus Williams are the most famous sisters to play professional tennis.  The most famous brothers are likely John McEnroe and Patrick McEnroe. 

However, the most successful brothers to play together are the Bryan brothers, as they are the most successful doubles partners of all time. There are other siblings to note that we will also feature in this article.

Serena and Venus Williams

Without a doubt, the Williams sisters are the most famous sisters to ever play tennis. Serena Williams is the greatest female tennis player in the Open era. 

She won an extraordinary 23 Grand Slam titles. She also won 73 titles and is the only player to win all four Grand Slam tournaments in singles and doubles in one calendar year. Together with her sister, she won 14 Grand Slam doubles titles. She retired from tennis last year at the US Open. Venus Williams is still playing professional tennis at 43 years old. Venus Williams has also had a spectacular career, including winning seven Grand Slams and a total of 49 titles. 

Venus was also ranked #1 in the world.

Mike and Bob Bryan

Mike and Bob Bryan, from California, are the two most successful brothers to play together. In fact, they are the most successful doubles partners or all time.  Unlike Venus and Seren Williams who played both singles and doubles, the Bryan brothers focused entirely on doubles.

Together, between 1998-2020, these twin brothers won 119 doubles titles. Left-handed Bob and right-handed Mike partnered to win 16 Grand Slam titles, 39 ATP 1000 Masters titles, Olympic gold, Davis Cup and were the #1 ranked doubles team 438 weeks. Mike actually won 5 more titles than Bob, as Bob was injured in 2018 and Mike played with Jack Sock.

Marat Safin and Dinara Safin

Marat and Dinara Safin, from Russia, are a brother-sister duo who both had tremendous success as professional tennis players. Marat Safin, as noted in this article, was the #1 ranked player in the world.  Like Marat, Dinara Safin was also ranked #1 in the world. She won 12 singles titles and 9 doubles titles.

Andy and Jamie Murray

The brothers Andy and Jamie Murray, from England, are another famous sibling duo. Andy Murray, of course, was the #1 ranked player in the world and he is a member of the “Big Four,” along with Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. He won a total of 46 titles, including three Grand Slams.  While his brother, Jamie Murray, is less well-known, he had a successful career as a doubles player.  

He was ranked #1 in the world in doubles and he won 31 titles, including winning the Australian Open and U.S. Open.  He also won 5 mixed doubles Grand Slams, three at the U.S. Open and two at Wimbledon.

Arantxa, Emilio and Javier Sanchez

The most famous three siblings to play professional tennis are Arantxa Sanchez Vicario and her brothers Emilio Sanchez and Javier Sanchez. Arantxa Sanchez Vicario was the #1 ranked player in the world in both singles and doubles. In singles, she won 29 titles during her career, including four Grand Slam titles, three of which were at the French Open. In doubles, she won 69 titles, including 6 Grand Slams. She also won four mixed doubles Grand Slams.

Her brothers, while not as successful as her, also had strong careers in both singles and, especially, doubles.  Emilio Sanchez was the #1 ranked doubles player in the world, and he reached a high of #7 in the world in singles.  He won 50 doubles titles, including three Grand Slams, and 15 singles titles. He also won two mixed doubles Grand Slams. 

Javier Sanchez reached a high ranking of #9 in doubles and #23 in singles.  He won four singles titles and 26 doubles titles.

Manuela, Katerina and Magdalena Maleeva

The Maleeva sisters, from Bulgaria, are another famous set of three tennis players.  All three sisters, Manuela, Katerina and Magdalena, were ranked in the top 10 in the world. Manuela reached a high of #3 in the world.  She won 19 singles titles and 4 doubles titles, along with winning one Grand Slam in mixed doubles at the U.S. Open.  

Katerina Maleeva, who is two years younger than Manuela, reached a high of #6 in the world.  She won 11 singles titles and two doubles titles.   Magdalena Maleeva, the youngest sister, reached a high of #4 in the world and won 10 singles titles.  She also won 5 doubles titles.

Zverev, Tsitsipas, McEnroe…

Stefanos Tsitsipas and Alexander Zverev both have professional tennis playing brothers  Stefanos recently won his first doubles title together with his brother Petros. Petros is currently ranked #81 in the world in doubles.  Mischa Zverev, the older brother of Alexander, reached a career high ranking of #25 in the world. He won one ATP tournament.

John McEnroe, the former #1 ranked player in the world in both singles and doubles, won 77 singles titles, including seven Grand Slams, and 77 doubles titles, including nine Grand Slams. His brother Patrick, while not as famous, reached a career high of #28 in singles and #3 in doubles.  He won one singles title and 16 doubles titles, including one Grand Slam at the French Open.  John McEnroe and Patrick McEnroe have both had great second careers as popular tennis TV broadcasters. 

Zverev brothers

Richard Krajicek, from the Netherlands, won 17 titles, including the 1996 Wimbledon.  He reached a career high singles ranking of #4 in the world. Richard’s younger sister, Michaella, won three singles titles and five doubles titles, and was ranked in the top 30 in both singles and doubles.

Karolina Pliskova was the #1 ranked player in the world.  She won 16 singles titles, as well as five doubles titles.  the first in the world at one point and has won 16 titles so far. Her identical twin sister Kristyna won 1 singles title and 5 doubles titles and reached a career high of #35 in singles and #44 in doubles.

Another sister duo is the Radwanska sisters from Poland. Agnieszka Radwanska was the #2 ranked player in the world and won 20 singles titles.  Agnieszka’s sister, Urszula Radwanska, reached a career high singles ranking of #29 in the world and a career high doubles ranking of #74 in the world.  She won one WTA double title.
