Tournament Begins on April 8, 2023
The 2023 Monte Carlo Masters, officially known as the Rolex Monte Carlo Masters, draw has just been released. This tournament marks the beginning of the European clay court tennis season, which culminates with the 2023 French Open which begins on May 28, 2023.
The Monte Carlo Masters, played at the Monte Carlo Country Club, is one of 21 clay tournaments on this year’s ATP schedule. This year’s tournament features an extraordinary line-up of 56 of the world’s leading players. The tournament finals will be played on Sunday, April 16, 2023 at 2:30pm local time.
As a Masters 100 tournament, the winner of the 2023 Monte Carlo Masters will be awarded a coveted 1,000 ATP points. Up for grabs is prize money totalling €5,779,335 Euros, equivalent to $6.28 Million US dollars.
One side note of interest. As discussed in this article, Francis Tiafoe is currently in the semi-finals of The U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championships currently being played in Houston, Texas. Assuming he makes it to the finals, it is scheduled to be played tomorrow night, April 9, 2023, at 7:00pm Central Time.
He is also currently scheduled to play in Jiri Lehecka in the first round in Monte Carlo on Monday April 9, 2023. I am curious to see how quickly he can travel to Monaco and if the tournament accommodates him by moving his match to Tuesday, April 10th.
